Herbert Spencer's article on the Past and Future of Religion will at tract much attention. He holds that the religious element is indestructible in human nature; but as it has liithcrto undergone extensive development and purification in the long course of human unfolding, it is destined to be still further purified and ex alted by the progress of -science and en largement of the human intellect until all conflict disappears, aid religiou and science are completely harmonized.
